Providence Freshmen suspended indefinitely

Nov 6, 2013 - 7:31 PM Providence, RI (SportsNetwork.com) - The Providence Friars will be shorthanded to begin the 2013-14 campaign after the team announced that freshmen Brandon Austin and Rodney Bullock have been suspended indefinitely.

Austin and Bullock can still practice but are suspended from game action for "not upholding their responsibilities as student-athletes." Details on the suspension have not been announced.

"We hold our student-athletes to very high standards," said head coach Ed Cooley. "We are disappointed in some of the choices that Brandon and Rodney have made. Due to this, we have decided to suspend them indefinitely from any game action."

Austin, a 6-foot-6 forward from Philadelphia, was expected to make an immediate impact for the promising young Friars, who won seven of their last 10 regular season games a season ago. The talented swingman was ranked as the third best prospect in the state of Pennsylvania and 12th best small forward nationally by ESPN.

Providence kicks off its season on Friday when it plays host to Boston College.
