UC Irvine coach Turner lands contract extension
Nov 8, 2013 - 1:18 AM Irvine, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - UC Irvine head men's basketball coach Russell Turner had his contract extended through 2017-18 following a 21-win campaign last season.Turner, a former assistant for the NBA's Golden State Warriors, guided the Anteaters to a 21-16 record and an appearance in the Big West championship game in 2012-13. UC Irvine also won its opening-round game in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament, the program's first postseason win in 27 years.
The Anteaters are picked to win the Big West in this year's preseason conference poll and are coming off an 11-7 record in league play.
Turner has compiled a 45-54 overall record in three seasons at UC Irvine. Prior to his six-year stint with the Warriors from 2004-10, the 43-year-old served as an assistant coach at Wake Forest and Stanford.
