Murray State extends Prohm, Hatcher

Jun 6, 2014 - 8:56 PM Murray, KY ( - Murray State has awarded contract extensions to men's basketball head coach Steve Prohm and head football coach Chris Hatcher, according to a release issued by the school.

Both Prohm, who has directed the Racers to 75 victories in his three seasons in charge of the program, and Hatcher are now under contract for the next four seasons. Hatcher's deal runs through the conclusion of the 2017 campaign, while Prohm was extended until the 2017-18 academic year.

Additionally, athletic director Allen Ward received a one-year extension.

Prohm put Murray State on the national map by leading the Racers to a 31-2 record and a win in the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2011-12, his first season as head coach. The Racers spent 13 weeks in the national rankings that year and briefly climbed into the top-10 for the first time in school history.

Murray State captured the Tournament championship this past season and finished 23-11 overall, including a 13-3 mark in Ohio Valley Conference play.

Hatcher has gone 24-21 in four years at Murray State and is coming off a 6-6 finish in 2013. The 41-year-old owns an 118-48 record in 14 seasons as a head coach, highlighted by a 2004 NCAA Division II national championship while then at Valdosta State.

"Extending the contracts for Coach Prohm and Coach Hatcher represent the trust and confidence we have in these exceptional coaches as they lead our two high- profile sports," Ward said. "They do an outstanding job, represent Murray State extremely well, and are clearly the reason we compete at a championship level year in and year out. I also want to thank [president] Dr. [Tim] Miller for confidence he has expressed to me in my role at Murray State."
