Hawaii names Benjy Taylor men's basketball coach
Nov 1, 2014 - 3:06 AM Honolulu, HI (SportsNetwork.com) - Hawaii named Benjy Taylor as acting men's basketball coach for the 2014-15 season on Friday.Taylor replaces Gib Arnold, who was fired after four seasons at the helm on Tuesday. Assistant coach Brandyn Akana was also let go as the program has been under investigation by the NCAA for potential rules violations.
"Benjy will provide leadership and guidance for the UH men's basketball program, while ensuring that our student-athletes continue to pursue athletic and academic success," Hawaii athletic director Ben Jay said. "The student- athletes have expressed to me their desire to have Benjy at the helm and that is how we will proceed as we prepare for the start of the 2014-15 season."
Taylor, who previously served as an assistant at Hawaii from 2012-14, was the head coach at Chicago State from 2007-10. He led the Cougars to a 39-53 mark during that time.
The 47-year-old also coached three seasons at North Central from 2001-04.
