Illinois-Chicago fires Moore

Mar 10, 2015 - 6:18 PM Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Illinois-Chicago has fired men's basketball coach Howard Moore after five seasons.

Moore compiled a record of 49-111 during his tenure with the Flames, including 10-24 this season.

"I want to thank Howard Moore for his five years of commitment to UIC athletics," said Illinois-Chicago athletic director Jim Schmidt in a statement released Tuesday. "We have high expectations and aspire to be at the top of the Horizon League and we have not met our competitive goals. We have dedicated and talented student-athletes in the basketball program who are committed and make us optimistic for the future. I wish Howard the very best of luck going forward."

Moore had just one winning season at UIC, leading the Flames to an 18-16 record with an appearance in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament in 2012-13. He received a contract extension through the 2017-18 campaign after that season.

However, the Flames were just 6-25 last season before again struggling in 2014-15.

Moore had been an assistant for five seasons at Wisconsin before taking the UIC position.
