Major won't return as Charlotte coach
Mar 16, 2015 - 12:44 AM Charlotte, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Alan Major will not be back as coach of the Charlotte men's basketball team.Major and Charlotte mutually agreed to part ways, the school announced Sunday.
The 46-year-old coach has taken two leaves of absence in the past year to deal with medical issues.
"This is an extremely difficult situation," Charlotte athletic director Judy Rose said in a statement. "In talking with Alan, we decided this was both in his best interest and the best interest of our program."
Major called it "the best decision to make at this time for my health and for the program moving forward."
The 49ers were 75-81 in five seasons under Major, who was hired in April 2010 after six seasons as an assistant coach at Ohio State. They were 67-70 with him on the bench.
