Nevada picks Eric Musselman as men's coach

Mar 25, 2015 - 8:59 PM Reno, NV (SportsNetwork.com) - Nevada named former NBA coach Eric Musselman as its new head men's basketball coach on Wednesday.

Musselman, who coached three seasons in the NBA between 2002-07, will take over for David Carter, who was fired March 11 after six seasons as head coach of the Wolf Pack and 16 seasons with the program.

Nevada was just 9-22 this past season, its third losing record in a row. The Wolf Pack had a losing record in four of Carter's six seasons.

Musselman, 50, spent the last three years as an assistant coach at Arizona State and LSU. He coached the NBA Development League team in Reno during the 2010-11 season, leading it to the only Western Conference title in franchise history.

He was 108-138 in the NBA, coaching the Golden State Warriors for two seasons between 2002-04 and the Sacramento Kings for one season in 2006-07.

Musselman's five-year contract is expected to be approved by the state's Board of Regents on Thursday.

Nevada hasn't made the NCAA Tournament since earning a fourth consecutive berth in 2007.
