Murray State gives Prohm another extension

Mar 27, 2015 - 5:38 PM Murray, KY (SportsNetwork.com) - Murray State has rewarded men's basketball coach Steve Prohm with another contract extension.

Prohm, who guided the Racers to a 29-6 record with an Ohio Valley Conference regular-season title this year, had his deal extended through the 2018-19 season with an automatic extension that carries it through 2020.

Murray State previously extended Prohm's pact last spring after the Racers won the CollegeInsider.com Tournament championship. This year's extension also features a renegotiated contract, terms of which were not disclosed.

"Since the day I was named Murray State's president, I've been inundated with messages from Racer fans with high hopes that we'd find a way to keep Coach Prohm around," said Murray State president Dr. Bob Davies in a statement Friday. "Racer basketball is an incredible marketing tool and having a highly successful and respected leader at the helm is imperative. Steve's very deserving of the package we've put together to keep him at Murray State."

The Racers finished 16-0 in the Ohio Valley Conference this season, but lost a heartbreaker to Belmont in the tournament championship game. They went to the National Invitation Tournament and reached the quarterfinals before losing to Old Dominion.

"I want to thank Murray State president Dr. Bob Davies and director of athletics Allen Ward for their commitment to me and the Racer basketball program over the next several years," said Prohm. "We have an opportunity to do something really special here and I'm honored to be a part of it."

Prohm has a record of 104-29 in four seasons with the Racers. He took Murray State to the NCAA Tournament in his first season of 2011-12, beating Colorado State before falling to Marquette.
