Report: Marshall staying at Wichita State with new deal
Apr 2, 2015 - 1:32 PM Wichita, KS (SportsNetwork.com) - Gregg Marshall may have considered a different address, but he is apparently going to stay at Wichita State.According to the Wichita Eagle, Marshall has canceled a planned trip to Alabama and will stay with the Shockers. The paper said Marshall has reached an oral agreement on a new contract that will pay him about $3 million.
Alabama is trying to replace the fired Anthony Grant and had apparently targeted Marshall, who has spent eight highly successful seasons at Wichita State.
Marshall has a record of 204-76 with the Shockers, including a Final Four appearance in 2013 and a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament in 2014 after an unbeaten regular season. This year's squad finished 30-5, losing to Notre Dame in the Sweet 16.
Before taking over at Wichita State, Marshall spent nine years as head coach at Winthrop. He became the Big South's all-time winningest coach with a mark of 194-83 and took the Eagles to the NCAA Tournament seven times.
