Bowling Green fires men's hoops coach for conduct breach

Apr 2, 2015 - 8:56 PM Bowling Green, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Bowling Green has terminated the contract of head men's basketball coach Chris Jans following an inquiry regarding his public conduct.

According to a statement issued by the BGSU athletic department, Jans' public conduct "failed to meet his obligations as a head coach and the expectations that BGSU Athletics has for its coaches."

The university did not specify the exact nature of the incident that led to Jans' termination. However, FoxSportsOhio.com reported that Jans had to be removed from an off-campus bar on March 22 after acting inappropriately towards at least one female patron.

The report stated that Jans was requested to leave the establishment after being slapped by a woman, and there may have been video of the incident recorded on a cell phone.

No charges have been filed against Jans at the present time, according to FoxSportsOhio.

Jans, formerly the lead assistant under Gregg Marshall during Wichita State's 2013 Final Four run, had served just one season as the Falcons' head coach. He led Bowling Green to a 21-12 record and a berth in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament.

Assistant coach Mark Downey will oversee the program on an interim basis, with Bowling Green to immediately conduct a national search for a permanent replacement.
