Wichita State says F Grady's back injury improving
Nov 28, 2015 - 8:39 PM LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (AP) Wichita State says tests on injured forward Anton Grady show no signs of spinal cord trauma stemming from a collision in a game Friday that left him motionless on the court. The school said Saturday that a neurosurgeon reviewed an MRI and that doctors believe Grady sustained a spinal cord concussion. The doctors anticipate that his motor function and strength will return.
Grady was injured in Friday's 64-60 loss to Alabama at the AdvoCare Invitational, when he turned and started to run from the offensive zone to play defense and made chin-first contact with a Crimson Tide player. The impact caused his head to rotate to one side.
Grady was alert and responsive and had feeling in his extremities on Friday, but had limited use of his arms and legs. The school said his condition improved Saturday, especially in his upper body.
Grady will receive physical therapy over the next couple of days before doctors make a decision on his release from the hospital.
Wichita State plays its final game in the invitational Sunday.
