Yale captain Montague won't return to Ivy league leaders

Feb 25, 2016 - 3:28 AM NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) Yale says captain Jack Montague has left the team and will not return this season to the Ivy League leaders.

The school has declined to detail why Montague has been absent from the squad for the last two weeks, other than to say it was for personal reasons. The Yale Daily News reported Wednesday that the senior guard has withdrawn from the university.

The athletic department issued a statement Wednesday night saying it ''confirmed today that Jack Montague will not return to the men's basketball team. There will be no further comment from the university.''

Montague had been averaging 9.7 points per game, but has not played since scoring 16 points against Cornell on Feb. 6.

The Bulldogs, who have not been to the NCAA Tournament since 1962, are 3-1 in his absence, and are a half-game ahead of Princeton in the conference standings.
