Richmond reserve Wood to miss 2nd game with concussion
Mar 10, 2016 - 8:14 PM NEW YORK (AP) Richmond forward Marshall Wood will miss the Spiders' third-round game against Dayton on Friday in the Atlantic 10 Conference tournament because of a concussion.Wood was held out of Richmond's second-round victory against Fordham on Thursday. Coach Chris Mooney said after the 70-55 win that Wood wouldn't be available Friday but left open the possibility the junior could return if Richmond upsets top-seeded Dayton.
Wood is in the medical staff's concussion protocol. Mooney said Wood suffered the concussion Sunday in a single-car accident when he swerved to avoid a deer.
A transfer from Virginia Tech, Wood averaged 8.6 points and 3.9 rebounds this season. He was second on the team in 3-pointers made with 58.
Mooney said swingman Trey Davis was nursing a sore back and ankle after being knocked to the floor by a hard foul in the second half of the Fordham game. Davis has started all 31 games this season and is averaging 5.1 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game.
