Walker carries Cal past San Diego

Mar 23, 2008 - 12:51 AM PALO ALTO, California (Ticker) -- Ashley Walker enjoyed some familiar surroundings, scoring 21 points and grabbing 12 rebounds as California rolled to a 77-60 victory over No. 14 San Diego in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday.

The third seed in the Greensboro Regional, the Golden Bears shot 48 percent (30-of-62) from the floor at Stanford - one of their Pac-10 Conference rivals - in winning their first game in the NCAAs since 1993.

Devanei Hampton added 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting for California (27-6), which will face George Washington in the second round on Monday.

Sam Child scored 14 points and Morgan Henderson added 13 for the Toreros (19-13), who committed 24 turnovers, leading to 24 points for the Golden Bears.
