Manhattan extends Olenowski's contract

Jun 23, 2011 - 3:15 PM Riverdale, NY (Sports Network) - Manhattan College has rewarded women's basketball coach John Olenowski with a five-year contract extension through the 2017-18 season.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Olenowski, who has two years remaining on his original deal, led Manhattan to a record of 24-10 last season with a semifinal berth in the Women's Basketball Invitational.

"Coach Olenowski has been tremendously successful everywhere, and he has continued that success his first two seasons here," said Manhattan athletic director Bob Byrnes in a statement. "I can say with confidence that Manhattan women's basketball will consistently have an opportunity for postseason play with John at the helm."

Manhattan's trip to the WBI was the school's first postseason appearance in eight years. The 24 wins broke the old school record of 20, set first in 1986-87 and matched in 2002-03.

"I am honored and thrilled to receive this contract extension," said Olenowski. "I couldn't be any happier than to continue being the head women's basketball coach at Manhattan College."

Olenowski has compiled a record of 39-25 in two seasons with the Lady Jaspers, including a 23-13 mark in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. He also coached at Pace University for three years and has an overall record of 109-53.
