Ole Miss hires Insell as next coach
Mar 28, 2013 - 11:44 PM Oxford, MS (Sports Network) - Ole Miss has hired Matt Insell as their next head women's basketball coach.Insell spent the last five seasons as an assistant coach at Kentucky and helped lead that program to four 20-win seasons and four trips to the NCAA Tournament. Kentucky plays Delaware in the Sweet 16 on Saturday.
"I'm very excited to be the new women's basketball coach at the University of Mississippi," Insell said. "This is an opportunity I've had my eye on for a long time and I just can't put into words how excited I am to be leading this team. I promise you this - we are going to put a team on the floor that is going to make the Rebel Nation very happy."
Prior to his time at Kentucky, Insell was the director of basketball operations at Louisiana Tech.
Insell takes over a squad that went 9-20 this past season. The team was run on an interim basis by Brett Frank, who took over for Adrian Wiggins after he was fired before even coaching one game.
Wiggins was dismissed in October following an investigation over "impermissible recruiting contacts and academic misconduct committed by members of his staff."
