Drexel, Dillon agree to terms on contract extension
May 31, 2013 - 5:01 PM Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Drexel University and head women's basketball coach Denise Dillon have agreed to a contract extension through the 2020 season. No financial terms of the pact were disclosed.
"We are thrilled to announce that Denise will remain a Dragon for many years to come," Drexel athletics director Eric Zillmer said. "Under her leadership, Drexel women's basketball has risen to prominence on a national level. Their run to a WNIT championship not only brought an immense sense of pride to our campus community, but also showed the collegiate sports world what it means to be a Dragon."
Dillon, who is the school's all-time winningest women's basketball coach, led the Dragons to a program-record 28 wins last season, along with the aforementioned title -- a 46-43 decision over Utah back on April 6 -- the first for a Philadelphia-based Division I women's program.
A former star at Villanova in the mid-1990s, Dillon has guided Drexel to the postseason in each of the past five years including an NCAA Tournament berth in 2009, and has taken home Colonial Athletic Association coach of the year honors in 2005 and '09.
