Arkansas fires Collen
Mar 8, 2014 - 1:05 AM Fayetteville, AK (SportsNetwork.com) - Arkansas head women's basketball coach Tom Collen was relieved of his duties Friday after seven seasons. The move comes two days after the Razorbacks lost to 14th-seeded Ole Miss in the opening round of the Southeastern Conference Tournament.
Collen, who guided Louisville to three NCAA Tournament appearances in four seasons prior to taking over the Razorbacks' program in 2007, went 132-90 at Arkansas but just 40-68 in SEC play. The Razorbacks reached the NCAAs just once during his tenure.
"As part of a continuous and thoughtful evaluation of our women's basketball program and its future, I have come to the conclusion a change in leadership is appropriate for our program," Arkansas director of athletics Jeff Long said in a statement. "Our program has not made the progress necessary to position Razorback women's basketball to challenge for Southeastern Conference championships and consistently compete in the NCAA Tournament."
Arkansas posted a 19-11 record in 2013-14, along with a 6-10 mark in the conference.
