Kansas State fires women's hoops coach Patterson
Mar 10, 2014 - 6:39 PM Manhattan, KS (SportsNetwork.com) - Kansas State has fired women's basketball coach Deb Patterson after 18 seasons.Patterson guided the Wildcats to a record of 350-226 with a pair of Big 12 titles and nine NCAA Tournament appearances. However, this year's squad was just 11-19 overall and 5-13 in league play. It was the second straight 5-13 mark in Big 12 action.
K-State athletic director John Currie said the decision was made last Friday after the Wildcats dropped an 87-84 overtime decision to Kansas in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament.
"Coach Patterson and I met Friday night, and I shared with her my decision to make a change in leadership of our women's basketball program," said Currie on Monday. "I want to sincerely thank Coach Patterson for her 18 years of service to Kansas State and our women's basketball program."
Patterson was the Big 12's top coach in 2002 and 2008. She guided the Wildcats to the WNIT title in 2006 and last year's WNIT Final Four.
Associate head coach Kamie Etheridge will serve as interim head coach while the search for a full-time replacement is conducted.
