Mittie leaves TCU for Kansas State
Mar 18, 2014 - 9:52 PM Manhattan, KS (SportsNetwork.com) - Jeff Mittie is leaving TCU for Kansas State.Mittie was named the ninth head women's basketball coach at Kansas State on Tuesday.
The 47-year-old Mittie agreed to a five-year contract that will pay $375,000 the first year with $25,000 annual increases each year remaining on the contract. He will also receive a $140,000 signing bonus.
Mittie replaces Deb Patterson, who was fired last week after 18 seasons. Patterson guided the Wildcats to a record of 350-226 with a pair of Big 12 titles and nine NCAA Tournament appearances.
Mittie put together a 303-175 record in 15 years at TCU. He has achieved an overall record of 454-234 in his 22 years as a head coach, which also includes stops at Missouri Western and Arkansas State.
"We can't thank Jeff enough for the contributions he's made to TCU and our women's basketball program over the last 15 years," TCU director of intercollegiate athletics Chris Del Conte said. "This was not a decision about TCU. This was a decision for Jeff on being able to go home and be closer to family. We wish him the best.
"We will begin a national search immediately. With our $59 million renovation of Daniel-Meyer Coliseum underway and our membership in the Big 12 Conference, TCU is a phenomenal job. The future is bright for our women's basketball program."
TCU announced that associate head coach Brian Ostermann will assume interim head coach duties as the Horned Frogs play at Colorado on Wednesday in the opening round of the WNIT.
