Mississippi Valley State besta Lincoln, Mo., 16-6

Nov 15, 2009 - 2:18 AM ITTA BENA, Miss.(AP) -- Paul Roberts and Anthony Bowie threw touchdown passes as Mississippi Valley State beat Lincoln of Missouri 16-6 on Saturday.

Roberts threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Hakim McClellan in the first quarter for a 6-0 lead. Roberts went 9-for-16 for 121 yards, and Bowie was 10-for-19 for 169 yards.

With the score tied 6-6, Carlos Sanchez kicked a 29-yard field goal with 1:22 remaining in the third quarter as the Delta Devils (3-7) took a 9-6 lead. In the fourth quarter, Bowie hit William Christopher for a 10-yard touchdown pass to put the game out of reach.

Lincoln (0-10) was held to 183 yards total offense, including 96 yards rushing on 34 carries. The Blue Tigers were led by Jerrell Anderson, who caught three passes for 80 yards. The Blue Tigers, an NAIA team, are 1-18 over the past two seasons.
