Mount Union defeats Albright 55-3 in D-III playoff

Dec 5, 2009 - 7:48 PM ALLIANCE, Ohio(AP) -- Terrance Morring ran for three scores and caught a touchdown pass, leading Mount Union to a 55-3 win over Albright (Pa.) in the quarterfinals of the Division III playoffs on Saturday.

The Purple Raiders (13-0) extended the nation's longest winning streak to 28 games and will play against undefeated Wesley in the semifinals next Saturday.

Morring scored on runs of 1, 2 and 3 yards in addition to combining with quarterback Kurt Rocco on a 45-yard touchdown. Safety Drew McClain returned an interception 37 yards for a touchdown on the second play of the game before Rocco scored on a 7-yard run.

John Whelan kicked a 26-yard field goal for Albright (11-2) early in the second quarter, cutting Mount Union's lead to 14-3, but the Purple Raiders responded by scoring the next 41 points. Rocco hit Vince Petruziello with a 68-yard TD pass in the third quarter, extending the lead to 48-3.
