Nicholls State's Stubbs resigns over health issues

Sep 14, 2014 - 6:20 PM Thibodaux, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - Nicholls State football coach Charlie Stubbs has resigned over "major" health issues.

The university announced Sunday that it had accepted Stubbs' resignation, which will take effect on Monday.

"For more than four years I have given my best effort to create the climate of change needed to support a winning football program here at Nicholls," Stubbs said in a statement. "During the past year I have been diagnosed with major health issues, and I know that now is the time to step aside and focus my efforts on my health."

Athletic director Rob Bernardi said associate head coach Chuck Hepola will take over day-to-day football operations until a replacement for Stubbs is hired.

Stubbs took over as coach of the Colonels in 2010 and went 10-38 in four-plus seasons.
