Former Florida QB transferring to Columbia

May 14, 2015 - 4:02 PM New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - The hiring of Al Bagnoli as head coach appears to be making Columbia more attractive in Ivy League football circles.

Former Florida quarterback Skyler Mornhinweg, the son of longtime NFL assistant Marty Mornhinweg, will transfer to Columbia for the 2015 season, Gators coach Jim McElwain said on a conference call Wednesday. Mornhinweg has two seasons of eligibility remaining.

He was a high school standout in Bagnoli's backyard of Philadelphia when the coach was guiding Penn for 23 seasons, which included nine Ivy League championships.

The 6-foot-3, 205-pound pro-style signal caller started Florida's final three games of the 2013 season as a redshirt freshman - all losses, including against Florida State. He went 44-for-63 for 344 yards and three touchdowns with one interception.

Mornhinweg played in only one game last season as the team's No. 3 quarterback. He didn't attempt a pass.

Columbia will enter the new season on a 21-game losing streak - tied for the longest in Division I.
