The Citadel adds alum Yielding as defensive line coach

Feb 15, 2016 - 4:53 PM (STATS) -- The Citadel added alum Scott Yielding to its coaching staff Monday as recruiting coordinator and defensive line coach.

A 1993 graduate who also received a master's degree at The Citadel in 1998, Yielding has returned after a two-year stint at Illinois, where he was director of player personnel. He was tight ends coach and academic coordinator at The Citadel from 2012-13.

"I had the chance to work with coach (Brent) Thompson briefly in spring of 2014, and I was impressed with his football knowledge and willingness to get to know and experience The Citadel culture," Yielding said in a statement released by the school. "I'm looking forward to helping continue the on-field success of the program while also playing a role in developing the next generation of leaders off the field."

Before coaching at The Citadel, Yielding was an assistant director of football operations and recruiting at Oklahoma State from 2008-11, and spent 10 years coaching at the high school level.

"He is a tremendous evaluator who understands the fit that will allow our cadet-athletes to be successful at The Citadel," Thompson said. "He will be a valuable asset to our coaches and team with his knowledge and experiences here as a cadet, graduate student and coach and I'm excited to have him as a resource."

The Bulldogs were Southern Conference co-champions with Chattanooga last year and were ranked 13th in the final STATS FCS Top 25. The Citadel, which finished 9-4, reached the round of 16 in the FCS playoffs.
