Bears grab Houston-Carson in sixth round

Apr 30, 2016 - 8:48 PM (STATS) - The ability to make a position change and get better likely has the Chicago Bears convinced DeAndre Houston-Carson's best days are ahead of him.

The Bears selected the William & Mary free safety in the sixth round with the 185th overall pick of the NFL Draft on Saturday.

DHC already has an NFL-ready acronym and his versatile skill set suggests he is NFL-worthy as well.

After being a starting cornerback in his first three seasons at William & Mary, the 6-foot-1, 201-pound Houston-Carson made a successful conversion to free safety for his senior season. He went on to become a 2015 STATS FCS First Team All-American and CAA Football's co-defensive player of the year.

He has explosiveness and an instinctive style to make plays all over the field. Over his four years, he collected 293 tackles, including a team-high 109 as a senior, and 10 interceptions.

He also was a standout on special teams, where he played gunner and had nine career blocked kicks.

Earlier in the day, the Bears selected another former FCS defensive back with a similar name, Deiondre Hall of Northern Iowa, in the fourth round.
