Fordham wraps up spring under Breiner
Apr 30, 2016 - 8:36 PM (STATS) - Fordham football is intent on remaining at a high level following the departure of the architect of a four-year run of success.New coach Andrew Breiner liked what he saw during spring practices, which ended Saturday at Jack Coffey Field.
The defense had the upper hand during their final practice. Lawrence Menyah, Tyler Long and Jihaad Pretlow all intercepted passes during the drills.
Breiner, at 31 one of the youngest head coaches in Division I, succeeded the highly successful Joe Moorhead, who left to become Penn State's offensive coordinator after four straight winning seasons (38-13 overall). The Rams had losing records in the four seasons prior to his arrival.
Breiner, who served under Moorhead during those four seasons, including the last two as offensive coordinator, inherited a veteran team from last year's 9-3 finish, including 5-1 in the Patriot League and a No. 19 final national ranking.
The Rams will return 18 starters, with All-America running back Chase Edmonds and quarterback Kevin Anderson set to lead the way.
Fordham will open the Breiner era with a Sept. 3 visit to Navy. The home opener will be against Elizabeth City State on Sept. 10.
