Cougars to sport 'Houston' nameplates in wake of Hurricane Harvey
Sep 14, 2017 - 2:42 PM The Houston Cougars will wear nameplates on the back of their jerseys featuring "Houston" when they play Rice on Saturday. The special nameplates will serve as a tribute after the floods of Hurricane Harvey ravaged the city.
"It's pretty cool," safety Garrett Davis told the Houston Chronicle. "It will keep the motto of playing for the city. It won't necessarily be a game about us.
"We'll be able to go out and fight for the city, fight for the people whose houses were damaged and aren't able to do the things we are able to do."
Houston (1-0) saw its scheduled season opener against Texas-San Antonio canceled on Sept. 2 before posting a 19-16 win over Arizona on Saturday.
Rice (1-1) rebounded from its season-opening loss to Stanford in Australia with a victory over Texas-El Paso on Saturday.
