Jul 21, 2014 - 4:10 AM The Canterbury Tactix have appointed a former Australian high performance director as their new coach. The team on Monday announced Sue Hawkins will lead the team into the 2015 ANZ Championship season.
A shooter in her playing days, Hawkins played 28 tests for Australia during the 1980s and was the Netball Australia's first high performance manager in 1999.
In 2007, she became England's coach and led the team to a bronze medal in 2011 at the world netball championships in Singapore.
Netball Mainland CEO Brigit Hearn says Tactix will benefit under Hawkins' leadership and international experience.
"Sue has extensive experience in developing and executing a winning team culture and will lead with presence and confidence," she said.
Hawkins comes to Tactix after several years as head coach of the New South Wales Institute of Sport's netball programme.
She will fill the vacancy left by Tactix's mentor of three years, Leigh Gibbs, who retired this year.
