Firebirds' Wells signs for Pulse

Aug 11, 2014 - 7:37 PM Queensland Firebirds shooter Ameliaranne Wells has signed with the Central Pulse for next year's trans-Tasman netball league season.

The 23-year-old, who was born in Bundaberg and has played for Australia under 19s and 21s, qualifies as a non-import player because her father is a New Zealander.

Wells has spent four seasons with the Firebirds and was a member of the 2011 ANZ Championship winning team.

"I still have a lot of family in New Zealand, so I can't wait to get back to our family roots," Wells said in announcing the switch across the Tasman.

"It's been a long time since we have been back, but I have this feeling like I'm coming home."

The 186cm-tall Wells started playing netball when she was 12 and for the first six years her family had to drive her four hours to Brisbane every weekend for state training.

The Pulse has already secured defenders Katrina Grant, Te Huinga Reo-Selby Rickit and Ama Agbeze, and mid-courters Elias Shadrock and Whitney Souness for the 2015 ANZ Championship.
