Mystics come from behind to beat Steel

Mar 29, 2015 - 8:13 AM The Northern Mystics have chased down the Southern Steel to win their trans-Tasman netball league match 57-52 and remain top of the New Zealand conference.

The Steel led at every break and were up by six during the third quarter, but the Mystics, led by sharp-shooting skipper Maria Tutaia, levelled with six minutes to go before pulling away.

Both Tutaia (23 from 25) and Cathrine Latu (34/37) shot at 92 per cent.

At the other end, the Mystics produced plenty of defensive pressure on star Steel shooter Jhaniele Fowler-Reid, with Serena Guthrie and Temalisi Fakahokotau prominent.

Fowler-Reid ended up landing 38 of her 48 shots to dip below 80 per cent.

The result in Auckland on Sunday night means the Mystics have opened out a three-point lead at the top of the NZ conference with 3-1-1 win-draw-loss record.

For the Steel, it was their third defeat in four matches this season.
