Fever take positives from Super defeat

Apr 8, 2017 - 5:21 AM Despite an error-plagued second half which ended in a 56-43 defeat to the Magpies, West Coast Fever head coach Stacey Marinkovich is upbeat about her team's chances in Super Netball this season.

Marinkovich says her team will take several positives from the disappointing result at Hisense Arena on Friday and will bounce back.

"It is disappointing because obviously you're always out there to win," Marinkovich said. "I think we take great learning from it, and that's the thing we take most from the game.

"We're a team of potential, and we want to make sure we become this great and unstoppable team, so we have to really learn from what happened in that second half.

"The way we attacked the ball and defended in that second quarter was some of the best netball that we have played all season."

The Fever next have a bye before hitting the road again to take on the Queensland Firebirds on April 22.

West Coast trailed by one goal at half time but committed 24 turnovers in the second half to be outscored 28 goals to 16.

Fever started the game strongly, opening up an early lead in the first stanza, but had fallen behind by a goal at half time.

It was the third term that proved costly for the West Coast side, committing 14 turnovers to 10, with the Magpies outscoring Fever 13-6 to open up an eight goal buffer at the final break.

The final term saw Fever rally to score the first three goals of the quarter, before the Magpies scored eight of the last 10 goals to run out winners.
