Vixens to strong for Swifts in netball

Apr 23, 2017 - 7:32 AM The Melbourne Vixens have dominated the NSW Swifts in a convincing 60-minute performance to score a 62-54 Super Netball win at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney.

The Vixens won each term and built on their 35-30 halftime lead to ensure a comfortable round nine victory, placing them alongside Sunshine Coast Lightning at the top of the ladder after nine rounds.

The Vixens play Lightning next round in Melbourne.

Mwai Kumwenda scored 37 goals at 93 per cent accuracy for the Vixens on Sunday, while goal attack Tegan Philip chipped in with the remaining 25 goals.

At the other end, Sam Wallace continued her impressive season for the Swifts, scoring 37 goals from 39 attempts.

However, the visitors had too much firepower across the court for a home side missing Diamonds star Paige Hadley due to injury.

The Vixens' consistent form brought praise from Swifts coach Rob Wright, who predicted a four-way tussle for the premiership between the Lightning, Giants Netball, Collingwood Magpies and the Vixens.

"All four have shown they can win this comp," Wright said.

"You would say at the moment that Vixens have been super impressive and certainly Lightning continue to keep getting better and better. On form at the moment, you would probably say Lightning and Vixens are the two teams that look like the very best.

"But in saying that I still think Collingwood, if they can sort out what they want to do around their goal attack, they're probably a juggernaut that you won't want to play. In another five weeks' time they could be scarily good.

"I still think we'll see Collingwood in the grand final."
