Champion netballer Renae Ingles retires

May 23, 2017 - 10:28 PM Star Australian netballer Renae Ingles will retire after this weekend's final round of Super Netball.

The Adelaide Thunderbirds midcourter wanted to continue playing but has made the decision to quit for family reasons.

She took a break from the sport to give birth to twins last July before returning midway through the Australian domestic season.

"It has been extremely tough. Your heart tells you one thing but your brain is saying another," Ingles said.

"In the end, I need to think of my family.

"I am an 'all in or all out' kind of person, and I know I am not able to commit the way I need to and the way my teammates need me to."

Ingles has represented the Australian Diamonds 67 times, winning the Liz Ellis Diamond for the country's player-of-the-year in 2013.

She also won a Commonwealth Games gold medal at Glasgow 2014.

Her last game will be the Thunderbird's final-round clash with Collingwood in Adelaide on Sunday.

Ingles' husband Joe is a key player with the Utah Jazz in the NBA.
