Blake's two goals lead Islanders over Rangers
Sep 26, 2006 - 2:05 AM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Jason Blake looks like he is in midseason form.Blake scored goals four-plus minutes apart in the third period to help rally the New York Islanders to a 5-2 preseason victory over the New York Rangers.
Trailing, 2-1, after two periods, the Islanders tied the game on Blake's first goal at 4:04. The left wing, who finished third on the team in scoring last season with 28 goals and 29 assists, followed with another tally at 8:48 to give the Islanders a 3-2 lead.
Chris Simon and Arron Asham added goals in the final session for the Islanders, who earned their first victory after two defeats this preseason.
Viktor Kozlov had the other tally for the Islanders, who went 3-for-3 on the power play.
Ivan Baranka and Jarkko Immonen scored for the Rangers, who were blanked in six opportunities with the man advantage.
Rick DiPietro started for the Islanders and steered aside 14 of 15 shots before being replaced by Mike Dunham at 10:48 of the second period. Dunham stop 15 of 16 shots.
Stephen Valiquette went the whole way for the Rangers, making 30 saves.
