Panthers sign 2010 top pick Gudbranson
Jul 15, 2011 - 6:12 PM Sunrise, FL (Sports Network) - The Florida Panthers have agreed to terms on an entry-level contract with defenseman Erik Gudbranson, the third overall pick in the 2010 draft."Erik is one of our top draft picks that we are pleased to have signed," said Panthers general manager Dale Tallon. "He is a big, strong, and mobile defenseman, who has demonstrated tremendous work ethic, character and passion for the game. He is a strong, young player with mental and physical toughness who continues to grow and develop in his role. We look forward to his continued contributions to the Panthers organization both on and off the ice."
The 19-year-old played in all six of Florida's preseason games last year, but did not make the team and was sent back to Kingston of the Ontario Hockey League.
Gudbranson played in 44 games with Kingston in 2010-11, posting 12 goals and 22 assists. In three career seasons (148 games) with the Frontenacs, the Ontario native has totaled 17 goals and 62 assists.
