Ducks assign G Hiller to Portland
Oct 24, 2007 - 12:18 AM ST. LOUIS (Ticker) -- The Anaheim Ducks cleared some room in the crease Tuesday, assigning goaltender Jonas Hiller to Portland of the American Hockey League.A native of Switzerland, Hiller was signed as an undrafted free agent on May 25 and made his NHL debut on September 30, making 22 saves in a 4-1 victory over Los Angeles in the second of Anaheim's season-opening two-game set against the Kings in London, England.
The 25-year-old Hiller's only other appearance came on October 6, when he yielded five goals on 29 shots in a 5-4 loss to Pittsburgh.
Hiller has had plenty of success in his homeland, helping Davos to both the Swiss National League and Spengler Cup championships while also being named the best goalie in the Swiss League. He posted an 80-52-10 record with 16 shutouts and a 2.53 goals-against average in 141 career games in the league.
