Sharks sign G Boucher

Feb 26, 2008 - 11:16 PM SAN JOSE, California (Ticker) -- The San Jose Sharks used a different route to acquire a veteran goaltender prior to Tuesday's trade deadline, signing Brian Boucher to a one-year contract.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Boucher, 31, has appeared in 220 games over parts of seven seasons with five different NHL teams. The Woonsocket, Rhode Island native figures to compete with Dimitri Patzold and Thomas Greiss for backup duty behind All-Star netminder Evgeni Nabokov.

The 22nd overall draft selection of Philadelphia in 1995, Boucher owns a career regular-season record of 77-96-33 with 13 shutouts. He also has appeared in 21 career playoff games, going 11-8 with a 2.07 goals-against average and .916 save percentage.

The Sharks (33-21-8), who currently are fifth in the Western Conference standings, made a major splash at Tuesday's trade deadline, acquiring All-Star defenseman Brian Campbell from the Buffalo Sabres.
