Manly head into camp for home NRL final

Sep 8, 2017 - 5:30 AM Manly earned hosting rights for week one of the NRL finals, but they've hit the road and headed into camp ahead of Saturday's showdown against Penrith.

The Sea Eagles will play their elimination final against the Panthers at Allianz Stadium.

The commute from Sydney's northern beaches to Moore Park isn't exactly taxing.

But coach Trent Barrett wants his charges to recreate the same siege mentality that has helped Manly return to finals this year.

The Sea Eagles boast the equal-third best away record in the NRL this season at 7-5, and won their opening six games on the road to cement them as one of the competition front-runners.

When training finished on Friday morning, Barrett and his players shuffled off and checked into a hotel for the night.

"We need to get everyone in the right frame of mind," Barrett told reporters.

"We can control the environment for them a little better than if we were at home.

"A lot of the players have young families but this is a really important time of year and the players are all for making a few more sacrifices this month to get what we want."

It is a tactic Barrett has adopted throughout the 2017 season, even for games in Sydney.

"I've just found it works for us. We've done it as much as we can ,even though we are in Sydney," he said.

"It helps with our preparation, a few less distractions I guess."
