Young winger joins Scotland league team
Oct 16, 2017 - 8:56 PM Scotland have called 18-year-old England academy winger Will Oakes into their 24-man Rugby League World Cup squad.Oakes, who was in the England team beaten 31-26 by France under-18s in Perpignan last Friday, flew out to Australia on Monday as a replacement for the injured Ryan Brierley.
Halifax-born Oakes, whose mother comes from Falkirk, made his Super League debut in 2016 and has featured strongly in the Robins' promotion-winning campaign this year.
Oakes, who was in Scotland coach Steve McCormack's initial 36-strong train-on squad, will travel to Ballina ahead of Friday's warm-up match against a NSW Country team.
There he will join his Hull KR team-mates Danny Addy, Ben Kavanagh and Kieran Moran, who were in the main party that flew out of Manchester on Sunday.
Brierley was a late withdrawal after failing to fully recover in time from surgery to repair a damaged tendon in his middle finger.
