Cronk won't unsettle Roosters: Cordner

Nov 1, 2017 - 2:31 AM Sydney Roosters co-captain Boyd Cordner is confident the playing group won't be unsettled by Mitchell Pearce's potential departure following Cooper Cronk's recruitment to the club.

Pearce's future at the Roosters remains up in the air after the club on Monday confirmed the prize signing of Cronk on a two-year deal beginning next season.

The long-time Roosters halfback is away on holidays as he mulls whether to honour the final two years of his contract or request permission to play elsewhere.

Asked if Pearce's possible exit could upset his teammates, Cordner said during Kangaroos camp on Wednesday: "I don't think so.

"At the end of the day it's Pearcey's choice. He's going away now to get away from everything and think about it.

"I'm here to support Pearcey and respect his decision whichever way he wants to go but at this stage it looks like he'll be a Rooster."

Cordner reiterated his hope for the the incumbent NSW State of Origin halfback would stay.

"At the moment he's signed with the Roosters, he's a Roosters player and he's been a big part of what we've tried to achieve," Cordner said.

"He's been one of our best players since he's been at the club and especially when (coach Trent Robinson has) been here.

"As a good mate, he's been a part of the Roosters for all his football life anyway.

"We would love him to stay. That was the plan anyway, for Pearcey to stay and Cooper to add to what we've already got. It's the case so far and we're really looking forward to everyone buying in and I think if we can do that, I think we can achieve some big things."

Cordner said he was buoyed by what Cronk would add to a side that finished second after the 2017 regular season but lost to North Queensland at the preliminary final stage.

"We've just had conversations and obviously very happy and excited to have a player like Cooper Cronk at our club," he said.

"Everyone knows what he's done in the game and what sort of person he is. I'm really excited at what he can bring and add to our club not only on the field but off the field as well."
