Irish RLWC man departs after family death

Nov 4, 2017 - 4:43 PM Ireland's Michael Russell has returned home from the Rugby League World Cup following the death of his brother.

Russell, who came through the Irish domestic competition to earn a contract with English League 1 part-timers Coventry in 2017, is a travelling reserve with Mark Aston's 24-man squad, who play Papua New Guinea in their second group game on Sunday.

Egan said: "The thoughts of the squad and all involved in RLI are with Mikey, his parents, family and friends at this time.

"As a mark of respect, the team will wear black armbands in the game against Papua New Guinea and before the game the squad will share a moment together on the field."
