Bromwich focused on fresh start in 2018
Dec 14, 2017 - 3:46 AM Melbourne prop Jesse Bromwich is ready to farewell 2017, describing it as the best and worst days of his rugby league career. The high came with the Storm's NRL premiership triumph and the devastating low when the Test captain was dumped from New Zealand's World Cup campaign and suspended by his club over a drug controversy following the Anzac Test against the Kangaroos in Canberra.
Bromwich watched the Kiwis' painful capitulation in the tournament, wishing he could have been a part of it alongside his brother Kenny.
But he's ready to put it all behind him.
"I hope it's all done and dusted now and I'm ready to fight my way back into the Test team and I'm happy to come in and play off the bench or whatever they need," Bromwich told AAP.
"When I was on holidays I reflected on the year and it was a real mixed bag - it was the hardest and lowest part of my career but winning the premiership, that was the highest part but I'm happy it's behind me and I'm really looking forward to the new season."
For the first time since 2012, Bromwich is doing the full pre-season, which he said was harder than he remembered.
"We used to do lots of long distance and hills and now it's lots of sprinting and high-intensity efforts, which is tough for us forwards," he said.
Bromwich said he hoped to take part in the World Club Challenge against Super League champions Leeds at AAMI Park on February 16.
"With Macca (Jordan McLean) and Tohu (Harris) leaving there's a couple of spots open and the young guys are all working really hard with a real focus on that game," he said
