Suarez to miss Uruguay's WC opener
Jun 13, 2014 - 9:03 PM A knee injury will force striker Luis Suarez to miss Uruguay's first game in the World Cup against Costa Rica, coach Oscar Tabarez says.Tabarez said his team would be: Fernando Muslera, Maximiliano Pereira, Diego Lugano, Diego Godin, Martin Caceres, Walter Gargano, Egidio Arevalo Rios, Cristhian Stuani, Cristian Rodriguez, Diego Forlan and Edinson Cavani.
Suarez is recovering from a knee operation that he underwent in Montevideo on May 22 and his absence against Costa Rica was expected. It is hoped he will be fit for Uruguay's second game, against England on June 19.
Another change in the team is the inclusion of striker Cristhian Stuani, who has caught the eye in warm-up matches and has pushed Southampton's Gaston Ramirez onto the bench.
Tabarez said of Costa Rica: "They have very quick players and a good technical level."
He denied the changes in the team would impact the performance: "The footballers that I like are the ones who can take decisions when things change or when something unexpected happens."
