Italy's black armbands for Euro16 quarter
Jul 2, 2016 - 11:51 AM Italy's soccer team will play their Euro 2016 quarter-final against Germany with black armbands to honour the Italian victims of the terrorist attack in Bangladesh."The hours leading to the important (match) have been darkened by the tragic news of the death of Italian citizens," the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) said in a statement, ahead of the last-eight clash on Saturday (Sunday AEST), after reports that 20 people had died in the attack, including an unspecified number of Italians.
Extending the condolences of the federation and of the Azzurri squad to the families of the victims, the FIGC said European soccer's governing body UEFA had authorised players to wear the armbands to mark their "participation to a time of such great grief".
