West Ham expect wantaway Payet at training
Jan 15, 2017 - 4:37 PM Wantaway West Ham soccer midfielder Dimitri Payet will be expected to report for training as usual on Monday. The 29-year-old France midfielder stunned Hammers supporters by requesting to leave and refusing to play on Saturday against Crystal Palace in the English Premier League.
Manager Slaven Bilic made Payet's stance public last Thursday, but was also clear that the Hammers are determined to keep him.
West Ham expect Payet to attend training on Monday, although he will not be training with the first-team squad and his activities could be determined by the extent of a back injury.
Bilic said on Thursday: "Until he changes his attitude he is out of the team and he's not going to train with us.
"But we are not going to sell him. I expect him to come back and show commitment and determination to the team, like the team has shown to him."
Bilic said he was "angry", while joint-chairman David Sullivan insisted in his program notes ahead of Saturday's win over Palace that Payet would not be allowed to leave this month.
Payet, who signed a bumper GBP125,000-a-week ($A202,800) five-year contract last February, is understood to want a move back to former club Marseille.
In anticipating the supporters' affection for Payet turning due to his actions, a steward was placed in front of a mural of the midfielder outside the London Stadium on Saturday to prevent it being vandalised.
