Marcelino to coach La Liga's Valencia
May 11, 2017 - 12:53 PM Former Villarreal boss Marcelino has been confirmed as Valencia coach for at least the next two seasons.Spanish La Liga giants Valencia have announced the news in a statement on Thursday, as they plot an improvement on two disappointing campaigns.
"Valencia CF and Marcelino Garcia Toral have reached a full agreement for him to be first-team head coach for a minimum period of two seasons," the statement on Valencia's website read.
"His official presentation will be made following the final LaLiga game and until then, the parties will not make any public statements."
Marcelino, 51, took Villarreal from Spain's second tier to three consecutive top-six finishes and the semi-finals of last season's Europa League.
However, he was sacked just days before the start of this season due to differences with the club's board.
Marcelino has been out of work since, with league rules preventing a coach from working for two different top-flight clubs in the same season.
Valencia caretaker manager Voro, who has steered the six-time Spanish champions to 13th in the standings since Cesare Prandelli resigned in December, will remain in charge for the final two games of the campaign.
