Lallana in Liverpool squad to face Sevilla

Nov 20, 2017 - 6:19 PM Adam Lallana has been included in the Liverpool squad travelling to Spain for the Champions League clash with Sevilla.

The England midfielder, yet to play in a competitive game this season, has been stepping up his recovery from a thigh injury.

Defender Joel Matip does not feature after he was absent from Saturday's 3-0 Premier League victory over Southampton due to a groin problem.

Another man included in the 23-man squad, announced by the Merseyside club is striker Danny Ings, who has made only one first-team appearance so far this term.

Liverpool top Group E with eight points, one more than second-placed Sevilla, and will qualify for the next round with a win on Tuesday, or with a draw if Spartak Moscow lose at home to Maribor.

Jurgen Klopp's Reds head into the contest at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium on a winning streak that extended to four matches in all competitions with the result against Southampton.

Mohamed Salah is in dangerous form right now and Klopp hopes the player can find a further confidence boost in Spain.

The Egyptian winger scored twice on Saturday, bringing his tally to 14 goals in all competitions since he joined the Reds from Roma in the summer.

When asked if Salah has exceeded his expectations, the German manager said: "He has reached them at least, that's clear.

"I like his goals and all that stuff but we don't have to talk about that, it's in the past. I'm more interested in his performance tomorrow night. He could get confidence off this."

The only game Sevilla have not won in their last five was a 2-1 defeat at Barcelona.

And coach Eduardo Berizzo must play cautiously and avoid going all out on attack even though a victory would secure the Spanish club a berth in the knockout stages for the second straight season.

"These big games often bring great expectations, but we must play smart and avoid a crazy back-and-forth game," the Argentine said.

"This type of game will not benefit us. We must have the composure to pick the right plan and execute it with balance."
