Adelaide's Marrone regrets ball boy scrap
Nov 23, 2017 - 7:07 AM Adelaide United defender Michael Marrone says he regrets grappling with a ball boy during the Reds' FFA Cup final loss to Sydney FC.Marrone has been cited for unsporting conduct by the governing body after knocking a ball boy over in extra time of Adelaide's 2-1 defeat on Tuesday night to the Sky Blues.
A date for the hearing is yet to be set but Marrone has been banned for one game after being red-carded over the incident.
Marrone, in a statement released on Thursday by the Reds, says he's "sincerely regretful" for the incident.
"I acted out of character in the heat of the moment which was unacceptable," he said in the statement.
"I did not intend to cause any harm.
"Since the match, I have made contact with the family involved to pass on my apologies and regret for the unnecessary stress it has caused them.
"I am thankful that the family have been understanding and supportive."
Marrone's teammates have blamed the ball boy not giving the ball back as the defender was attempting to re-start play in extra time with a throw-in.
