Muscat has good vibes back at Victory
Dec 23, 2017 - 4:31 PM Melbourne Victory boss Kevin Muscat says there is no ceiling on his team's A-League season after an exhilarating victory at the death over Melbourne City.Mark Milligan's 96th-minute penalty earned Victory back-to-back wins for the first time this season, lifting the club to fourth in the table.
Victory jumped out of the blocks against Melbourne City and looked winners for the first hour.
City came into the contest before Dean Bouzanis' goalkeeping blunder brought Milligan to the spot to win the match in front of the Victory end.
"In our play we were really proactive. I get a good feeling when we're in that type of mood," he said.
"Yes it was late but (we showed) a great deal of persistence. It was late but we got rewarded.
"It was a euphoric moment."
After 12 rounds, Victory finally have cause to be optimistic about their season.
International absences, injuries and suspensions have contributed to Victory's spluttered start but after a whole-of-team performance worthy of celebration, Muscat is looking up.
Asked whether he believed anything was still possible for his slow-starting side this season, Muscat replied simply "yes".
"There are so many stories to be written and told from now until the end of the season," he said.
"We bettered our performance from last week ... the group was outstanding."
In netting the last-gasp winner, Milligan - who captained the club to the 2014/15 A-League double - won another place in the club's history.
He became the fourth man to score a winning derby goal in the 90th minute or later, after Archie Thompson, Besart Berisha and Melbourne City's Erik Paartalu.
Milligan missed last weekend's win over Brisbane Roar with a hamstring injury and only entered the match after 64 minutes.
"That's his reward for his efforts and his attitude in his rehab," Muscat said.
